I recently came across the term hygge [hoo-gah], the Danish concept of wellness and living “cosily”. I did some Google research and had a think about what I have in my life that forms part of hygge.
As an avid foodie, anything related to cooking, baking and eating seems to make me happy (some might say I’m obsessed!). So I tried to delve deeper, what is my favourite food related activity and after about 3 seconds of thinking it was clear. Brunching is one of my favourite foodie activities!

Brunching:
The act of eating lunch and breakfast at the same time and it’s deliciousssssss. Best when served with mimosas, bloodies, and a round of laughter with friends.
Let’s go brunching Sunday I’m going to be soooo hungover!!!

One of my favourite things about spending a weekend is Dublin is the array of places that exist for brunching. I’ve put together my Favourite Five in South Dublin but watch this space, I will be sharing my brunching adventures in other parts of the capital soon!
5. Gourmet Food Parlour, Dun Laoghaire
The coffee is so amazing I would recommend one during brunch and another one after brunch. Not neglecting its brunch offering, GFP has a delicious menu which I think lends itself better to the savoury bruncher rather than the sweet bruncher. Aside from the food and coffee, have a look at the tiles on the floor. #InteriorGoals
4. Cinnamon, Ranelagh
Far enough out of town that you’re not reminded of the night before, Cinnamon Ranelagh is the perfect spot to catch-up with friends for a Saturday or Sunday brunch. Maybe treat yourself to a refreshing brunch cocktail if you’re feeling up it? I highly recommend the Bellini. Cinnamon in Monkstown (a mere 3 minute walk from my house) does an equally delicious brunch.
3. Avoca Salt Café, Monkstown
If you’ve always wondered what a plant-based milk coffee is like head on down to Avoca Salt Café in Monkstown for an almond milk cappuccino. I tried this one day at lunch and I’ve been converted ever since! In terms of food, this menu offers something for the sweet tooth (me), the egg lover and savoury-breakfast-person. My only issue, is that brunch starts at 12.30pm here – Is it just me that’s hungry for brunch at 11am?
2. The 105 Café, Clonskeagh
A hidden gem. I was unaware of this beaut until one Sunday morning when I tiredly (and maybe slight hungover) made my way here to meet a group of friends. I panic ordered a cappuccino and the French toast. I will safely say this was the best panic order I have ever made. The granola bowl was equally tempting.
1. Urbun, Cabinteely
I may be slightly obsessed with Urbun. Located just a short walk from the gorgeous Cabinteely Park, Urbun is one of the funkiest little places I’ve found in South Dublin. This is always my suggestion for brunch, lunch, coffee. Choose a delicious sweet or savoury brunch from the menu or take your pick of the freshly baked tray-bakes and scones at the counter – they even have gluten-free scones! If you decide to visit Urbun (which I really hope you do) have a coffee to sit-in for the pretty coffee art and have a coffee to go to make the brunch last longer!
Have you had a good brunch recently? Let me know – I’m always looking for new places!
