Sultana Bread

COVID-19 has use confined to our homes for most of the day. I love baking but I don’t want to spend this time making sweet treats. I’ll be rolling back to the office if that’s the case.

Instead, I’m going to channeling the majority of my baking energy into making a staple – bread. I’ve lots of bread recipes on the blog and people seem to be really utilising them these days – especially my brown bread recipe.

Hope you enjoy this one!

Ingredients
450g self-raising flour
1 tsp bread soda
40g sugar (optional)
1 tsp custard powder (optional)
100g sultanas
300ml whole milk
50ml water
1 egg

Method
Preheat the oven to 190C and grease a 2lb loaf tin.

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl or jug and make a well in the centre.

Beat together the milk, water and egg and gradually mix in to the dry ingredients.

Transfer to the prepared tin and bake at 180 C for 1 hour.

Remove from the tin immediately and wrap in a clean tea towel to cool.
